Our History
The Ohioana Library Association was founded in 1929 by Ohio First Lady Martha Kinney Cooper to collect, preserve, and promote the works of Ohio authors.
Today the Library’s holdings include more than 80,000 books by or about Ohioans; 10,000 pieces of sheet music; biographical files on notable Ohioans; personal papers of Ohio authors and artists; and numerous scrapbooks created by Ohio civic and cultural organizations.

Ohioana connects readers and Ohio writers.
The Ohioana Library is dedicated to collecting, preserving, and celebrating Ohio literature. Events including the annual Ohioana Book Festival and Ohio Book Awards are designed to share information about and celebrate the works of writers and illustrators in Ohio.

Our Collection
Ohioana’s collection includes books, sheet music, archival items, and more.
Explore more than 80,000 books by or about Ohioans; 10,000 pieces of sheet music; biographical files on notable Ohioans; personal papers of Ohio authors and artists; and numerous scrapbooks created by civic and cultural organizations in the state. These pieces do not circulate, but they are available for in-person use, and some collections can be viewed online.
